Britain Xaar, the global leader in industrial inkjet technology, recently announced the establishment of a new 3D printing technology research and development center in Nottingham, which will start operations in January 2017 to provide 3D to machine manufacturers, material suppliers and end customers Printing services and equipment. Xaar has also established a new R&D team headed by Professor Neil Hopkinson, a famous 3D technology expert. This project has also become an important part of Xaar's 2020 strategic plan.
As the founder of the revolutionary HSS (High Speed Sintering technology), Professor Neal Hopkinson joined Xaar in March 2016 to lead the company's 3D R&D business. HSS uses inkjet print heads and infrared heaters to produce various products by layering polymer powder materials at a speed much higher than other stacking manufacturing processes. This technology has aroused wide interest from many companies who wish to apply 3D technology for mass manufacturing.
Since joining Xaar, Professor Neal Hopkinson has established a dedicated 3D team and appointed the project manager and engineering and technical personnel of Xaar 3D Center earlier this year. This team will be in the new Nottingham 3D Center, focusing on cooperating with many well-known brand manufacturers around the world to conduct research and development of materials and applications, and will involve a group of experienced and high-level Xaar engineers working in Copenhagen, Denmark. Xaar’s Copenhagen team will provide expertise in design and process development to help Xaar’s partner companies commercialize HSS process equipment, thereby strengthening Xaar’s profitability in this rapidly growing business area.
Professor Neal Hopkinson said, “I am very happy to have invested in the Nottingham 3D Center and our 3D team has recruited R&D personnel from Copenhagen. When developing 3D business, do you have the specialized R&D capabilities to support partner companies? It is very important. The participation of Copenhagen personnel has further enhanced our research and development capabilities." According to Xaar CEO Dougnier Edwards, Xaar Group’s strategy of reaching 220 million pounds in sales by 2020 In the plan, the 3D printing business is an important part. The investment in the Nottingham and Copenhagen teams will significantly enhance Xaar's ability to achieve this growth goal.
